Carl E. “Swiney” Swinehart

Services for Carl E. “Swiney” Swinehart, 82, of Glenford, were December 17, 2007, at St. Paul United Church of Christ near Glenford, with the Rev. Diane Burger officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Reform Cemetery.

Swiney died at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at his home, after an extended illness. He was born March 22, 1925, in Glenford, the son of the late Reno and Lenna M. Trout Swinehart.

He was a retired 45-year employee of Central Silica Corp. in Glenford and was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where he had served both as a deacon and later as an elder. Swiney was active in the community, serving on the emergency squad as well as the fire department, where he served as chief for many years. He also was an activist in the building of the Shelly Park, along with others.

Surviving are his wife, Reba (Powell) Swinehart, of Glenford; a son, Terry Swinehart, of Roseville; a daughter and son-in-law, Bob and Sherry (Swinehart) Souders, of Glenford; a sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Lois (Swinehart) Gutridge, of Glenford; grandchildren, Chad, Chris and Nicole Swinehart, Wendy (Souders) Abram and Brandy (Souders) Hupp; greatgrandchildren, Ashley, Spencer, Cody, Raine and Nova Lee Swinehart, Colton Abram, Ava Seasor, Stephanie and Latasha Vannatter; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a greatgrandson, Payton Swinehart.
