Serving all the communities of the Buckeye Lake Region

Buckeye Lake is at full pool

BUCKEYE LAKE – “The lake is at full pool,” Buckeye Lake State Park Manager Tim Waln announced at the traditional breakfast April 27.

Waln said 2006 was a good one for the park, winning the Volunteer Park of the Year Award and the Division of Parks and Recreation’s Gazelle Award. The number of volunteers and the hours worked jumped over 70 percent from 2005 to 2006. Waln said the partnership with the Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association continues to grow.

A deal with the Ohio Department of Transportation will allow the Thornport Channel to be dredged this summer, Waln reported. The bridge is being replaced so the park’s 45-foot high dredge can get up the channel. ODOT is giving them 45 days of access to the channel. Permits are in place and the dredged material will be placed on a nearby farm.

A $500,000 grant will pay for major renovations at the North Shore Ramp. Three launch lanes will be added and the piers between the lanes will be concrete rather than floating docks. A second exit lane will be added from the park so motorists heading north on Ohio 79 won’t have to wait behind a vehicle trying to turn left to go south. “It will streamline everything,” Waln said.

The breakfast crowd also got a preview of the new Landings at Maple Bay. Rick Wolney of Winding Road Ventures said the 51-acre development will be an Epcon Community. There are 39 such communities in Central Ohio and a total of 129 nationwide. It will be the first to use the Nantucket design.

All, but one, of the 177 condos will be single floor. Most will be fourplexes arranged “pinwheel” style. The only common walls will be in the garages.

Construction of a five-acre harbor linked to Maple Bay is expected to start in July. Each unit will have a dock. An offset bridge on Hunts Landing Road will be built to provide access for boats. Twenty sailboat docks will be available on Maple Bay. Prices are expected to start around $270,000.
