Billy Lee Brown

Billy Lee Brown, 78, of Thornville, passed away April 2, 2016, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center of Hospice of Central Ohio, with his wife and children by his side. He was born on September 23, 1937, in Ironton, Ohio, to the late Alfred F. and Gladys Violet Sanders Brown.

Billy was a 1955 graduate of Rock Hill High School in Pedro, Ohio. In addition, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Science in Administration degree from Central Michigan University.

He retired in 1996, after 30 years of service, from the Autonetics Division of Rockwell International, where he served as a Logistics Engineer for the Peacekeeper, Hellfire and Minuteman missile programs. He also retired from Dawes Arboretum in 2011 and was a United States Air Force Veteran.

Billy was an avid lover of nature. He enjoyed fishing and was a volunteer and member of the Dawes Arboretum Bird Club. He dearly loved photographing birds and nature. He was a kind, gentle man who had many friends and made friends easily. He leaves behind many who dearly loved him: his wife of 55 years, Hildegard “Hilde” (Nachbar) Brown; his children, Christina (Robert) Mayes, of Pataskala and Katherine (Michael) Jurden, of Newark; and his grandchildren, Abigail and Elizabeth Jurden and Daniel Mayes. Billy will be missed by his brother, Gary F. (Joyce) Brown, of Coolville; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; and his very dear birding companions, Sonny Ponn and Jerry Winer. Billy’s strong moral character rubbed off on many in a beautiful, unforgettable way.

In addition to his parents, Billy is preceded in death by his brother, Charles R. Brown; and sister-in-law, Janice (Gore) Brown of Ironton.

A private service for friends and family will be held at a later date.
