BUCKEYE LAKE – The North Shore State Park hosted its largest crowd since BLASST Sunday afternoon.
Several hundred Big Band fans turned out to hear Rob Parton & his Orchestra in what turned out to be perfect weather. Billed as a “Tribute to Buckeye Lake Park,” the band brought back memories of the famous Crystal Ballroom at Buckeye Lake Amusement Park.
Emcee Jim Layton said he was surprised when he saw more than two dozen hands go up when he asked how many had been to the ballroom. Live music started at 1 p.m. with the orchestra taking center stage at 4 p.m.
The afternoon included games for children including rides on the KOA fire truck, a fortune teller , a local food tent and kayaking in Crane Lake.
Proceeds will benefit the Buckeye Lake Museum that is struggling to make up revenue lost from Queen of the Lake cruises. Cranberry Bog Day and special Bog tours. Layton said a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and generous sponsors made the event possible. It will likely become an annual event.
