Avoid All Good traffic July 18

JACKSONTOWN – Very little has been said about the traffic plans for the All Good Music Fesival and Campout which returns to Legion Valley July 18 -19.

The lack of traffic planning prompted Licking Township Fire Company Chief Mike Wilson to take matters into his own hands. He organized a meeting last Friday with representatives from All Good, the concert’s contractor that handles on-site EMS needs, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Licking County Sheriff’s Office and Hebron Police.

“I am concerned about what is going to happen,” Wilson told The Beacon. Last year, there were two multi-agency traffic planning meetings. Most agree that traffic last year, with the exception of a four to maybe six hour period from late Thursday morning through late afternoon, ran smoothly. However, eastbound U.S. 40 from Ohio 79 in Hebron to Ohio 13 was backed up most of the day as was Ohio 13 around the entrance to Legend Valley. Licking Trails, between U.S. 40 and Cristland Hill was used as the main entrance.

Wilson said he was surprised to find out Friday that the Ohio State Highway Patrol didn’t know that the westbound exit from I-70 to Ohio 79 had been closed to rebuild it. Though it wasn’t the designated exit for westbound traffic last year, many attendees opted to stay on I-70 until they got closer rather than taking the recommended exit at Brownsville.

Wilson said part of complacency this year can be attributed to about a 50 percent drop in advance ticket sales which has prompted All Good to scale down special duty officers etc.

For at least Thursday, local residents would still be wise to avoid eastbound U.S. 40 between Hebron and Jacksontown , Ohio 79 north from I-70 to U.S. 40, Ohio 13 between U.S. 40 and Boundaries Road, Licking Trails south of U.S. 40 and Kindle Road.

Recommended concert routes are:

• Westbound I-70: Exit at Brownsville to U.S. 40, Shelley Road, Laurel Hill, Somerset, Boundaries, to north on Ohio 13 to Gate 2.

• Eastbound I-70: Exit at Buckeye Lake to Ohio 79 north to U.S. 40 to right on Licking Trails to Gate 1.

Wilson will have additional on-station staff on Thursday and Sunday which are the concert’s high traffic days. He doesn’t want to risk volunteers getting struck in traffic on the way to the station.
