Area runners well represented at state tournament





 

 

HEBRON – Runners from three of the four lake area high schools qualified for the State Cross Country Championship held last Saturday at National Trail Raceway.

The Sheridan boys team qualified for the Division II final as did Lakewood junior David Drushal and sophomore Kelton French of Liberty Union-Thurston. Drushal was the top boys lake area finisher coming in 27th.

Junior Luke Brown of Sheridan finished 27th. French finished 83rd, followed by Sheridan sophomore Brandon Lanning came in 119th. Sheridan sophomore Michell Wells was 142th. Junior Junior Kyle Clellan finished 157, followed by Sheridan senior Jed Schumaker at 170, Sheridan Freshman Levi Sweazy at 172 and Sheridan sophomore Noah Deville at 174.

On the girls side, the Libery Union team qualified as did Sheridan senior Katie Hanson. The Liberty Union team finished 14th. Two Liberty Union runners finished on the podium. Junior Sydnee Mangetto finished 4th and senior Kenley French was 13th. Liberty Union junior Anna Foster came in 35th. Liberty Union Senior Alaina Millers finished 151st, followed by sophomore Elayna Miracle in 169th place; and seniors Lauren Springer and Sarah Staples finished 176th and 177th.

 

 

The two lake area teams in the state football tournament were eliminated in the first round Saturday. In Division III, Sheridan (8-3) fell to undefeated and #1 seed Columbus St. Francis DeSales (11-0) 55-13 in Columbus. In Division V, Liberty Union (7-4) lost to undefeated Sugarcreek Garaway (11-0) 47-14 in Sugarcreek.
