Area college students honored

BUCKEYE LAKE – Lake area college students honored.

Ashland University: The following lake area students completed their Ashland University degree requirements following the spring 2019 semester:

  • Madison Overman of Hebron, received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration during Ashland University’s spring 2019 commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Overman majored in Business Management. Overman is a 2015 graduate of Lakewood High School and is graduating with Cum Laude honors.
  • Keith Robinson of Baltimore, received a Master of Arts during Ashland University’s spring 2019 commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Robinson majored in American History & Government.

Ashland University: The following lake area students have been named to the Spring 2019 Dean’s List.

  • Hebron: Madison Overman who is majoring in business management. Overman is a 2015 graduate of Lakewood High School.
  • Millersport: Patricia Alley who is majoring in biochemistry. Alley is a 2017 graduate of Fairfield Christian Academy.
  • Thornville: Nicholas Novotny who is majoring in political science and history. Novotny is a 2017 graduate of Lakewood High School.

Central Ohio Technical College: The following lake area students have been named to the President’s List and Honors List for spring semester 2019. To qualify, a student must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of 4.00.

  • Hebron: Jensen Gartner, Matthew Kohut and Shelby Malcolm.
  • Millersport: Michael Barker.

The following lake area students have been named to the Honors List for spring semester 2019. To qualify, a student must be enrolled for a minimum of 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of 3.50 or better.

  • Baltimore: Emily Ehrman, David Nielsen and Tracy Stoughton.
  • Hebron: Madeline Young.
  • Millersport: Lauren Wilson.
  • Thornville: Kyle Cooperider, Benjamyn Hardy, Devin Holm, Karagin Pickett and Benjamin Smith.

Cedarville University: The following lake area students have been named to Cedarville University Dean’s Honor List. They maintained a 3.75 minimum GPA while carrying at least 12 credit hours:

  • Baltimore: Katherine Bisel

Columbus State Community College: The following lake area students graduated from Columbus State Community College during Spring Semester Commencement Ceremonies held May 10, 2019.

  • Baltimore: Alicia R Crowley, Davis B Sodders and Kristy M Wade
  • Glenford: Deshae M Williams
  • Hebron: Ethan J Cash
  • Thornville: Matthew M Cremeans, Cum Laude and Leslie Smith

Columbus State Community College: The following lake area students have been named to the Spring Semester Dean’s List at Columbus State Community College. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled for six or more credit hours.

  • Baltimore: Timithy Hillis, Madison Illick, Elizabeth Lowery, Katherine O’Brien, Kit Vanormer and Grant Winfree.
  • Hebron: Annie Betts and Daniel Williams
  • Thornville: Matthew Cremeans and Christa Pargeon
  • Thurston: Hannah Mattingly

Marietta College: Jaylen Chapin of Hebron, has been named to the Spring 2019 Dean’s List. Any full-time Marietta College student completing at least 15 credit hours with a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.74 is recognized as a Dean’s List student for that semester. Chapin is a member of the Class of 2019, and is majoring in Petroleum Engineering. Chapin is a graduate of Granville Christian Academy.

Miami University: The Mid-American Conference has announced its softball All-Conference Teams. Lakewood graduate Courtney Vierstra, of Thornville, was named All-MAC First Team.Vierstra led the Miami pitching staff in conference play in ERA (1.42), wins (8), appearances (17), complete games (8), shutouts (3), saves (2), innings pitched (78.2), strikeouts (111) and opponents’ average (.211). Vierstra is fifth in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings (10.5) and is 11th in the nation in strikeouts, her 233 also leading the MAC. She ranks third in program history both in strikeouts in a single season (233) and winning percentage (.708). Vierstra’s 17 wins this year ties for the ninth-most in a single season in program history. As a sophomore, she is eighth in Miami softball history with 394 career strikeouts, eighth with 33 wins and is fifth in career win percentage (.589).

Miami University: RedHawk Courtney Vierstra has been named to the Mid-American Conference’s softball Academic All-MAC team. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Vierstra is a Lakewood High School graduate.

Muskingum University: The following lake area students have been named to the Spring 2019 Dean’s List. To be named to the Dean’s List, students must attain strictly prescribed levels of academic performance in their overall grade point average.

  • Millersport: Johanna Whetstone
  • Thornville: Forrest Ison and Elita Jones

Muskingum University: The following lake area students earned Special Academic Awards at Muskingum University’s Celebration of Excellence ceremony, held April 5. The Celebration of Excellence honors Muskingum’s best performing students in academics, research, special projects and service.

  • Thornville : Forrest Ison, Joe L. Dubbert Award in History; and Elita Jones, George and Jean Schooley Phi Alpha Theata Prize in History

Ohio Dominican University: The following lake area students were named to the 2019 Spring Dean’s List. In order to make the Dean’s List, full-time undergraduate students must have achieved a 3.5 GPA or better after taking a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Baltimore: Hope Cardamone

Millersport: Emily Burke

Thornville: Hannah Luft

Kelly Mix, of Baltimore, received the Vice President for Academic Affairs’ Awards for Academic Excellence at Ohio Dominican University.

The Ohio State University at Newark: The following lake area students have been named to the dean’s list for spring semester 2019. To qualify, students must be enrolled at least 12 credit hours and achieve a 3.5 GPA.

  • Baltimore: Brandon Compton and Claudia Manter.
  • Buckeye Lake: Brittney Dodril.
  • Hebron: Savannah Cloud, Steven Cummins, Erin Dilger, Christian Dutiel, Lauren Dutiel, Olivia Ellis, Morgan Gregg, Emma Gullion and Clarissa Hutchinson.
  • Kirkersville: Hannah Stanton.
  • Millersport: Alec Harrison, Kaleigh Putnam and Cassondra Schilling.
  • Pleasantville: Zacary Colopy and Melissa Sommers.
  • Thornville: Kristin Carr, Nicole Friel, Patsy Fry, Emily Gunn, Danielle Justice, Amanda Payne, Trinity Porter and Zachary Sentivany.

Ohio Wesleyan University: The following lake area students were named to the 2019 spring semester Dean’s List. To qualify for OWU Dean’s List recognition, students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.

Baltimore: Tyler Brehm, Caitlyn Smith and Cameron Smith

Thornville: Mel Clum

Ohio Wesleyan University: Caitlyn Smith, of Baltimore, was honored April 18 at Ohio Wesleyan University’s 15th annual Dale J. Bruce Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner. She earned the Top 50 Academic Award. Smith competed on the Battling Bishop women’s soccer team.

Shawnee State University: A total of 419 Shawnee State University students graduated at the 2019 Spring Commencement Ceremony including one lake area student.

  • Hebron: Michaela Garner, Bachelor of Science, Chemistry

Shawnee State University: The following lake area students were named to the Dean’s List for Spring Semester 2019. To be placed on the Dean’s List, students must be enrolled full time and achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or better.

  • Baltimore: Michael Rose, Marketing
  • Hebron: Michaela Garner, Chemistry

Tiffin University: The following lake area students were named to the 2019 spring semester dean’s list.

Baltimore: Kaylee Savage and Rachel Smith

Millersport: Olivia Osborn

University of Findlay: Skyler Villa, of Hebron, recently graduated from the University of Findlay. Villa received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice.

Carly Brandon, of Hebron, recently participated in the University of Findlay’s 2019 Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity. Brandon was named to The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 310.

University of Findlay: The following lake area students were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester. To earn this achievement, a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Baltimore: Jeremy Trapp
  • Hebron: Carly Brandon and Skyler Villa
  • Thornville: Tallon Mount

University of Mount Union: The university’s all-women choir, Cantus Femina and chamber choir, Kantorei, performed their spring concert on May 3. Shelby Graham, of Thornville, performed as a member of Cantus.

University of Mount Union: The following lake area students have been named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of traditionally graded coursework while achieving a grade point average of 3.550 or better with no letter grade below a B.

  • Baltimore: Adriana Rodriguez
  • Thornville: Shelby Graham

Wright State University: The following lake area students were named to Wright State University’s dean’s list for the spring 2019 semester.

  • Baltimore: Jaycee Crouch, majoring in English.
  • Millersport: Noah Jewell, majoring in Chemistry.
