BUCKEYE LAKE – Trick or Treat was celebrated over two nights this year in lake area communities. Millersport kicked it off last Thursday with a cold rain moving out just before all kinds of creatures invaded Lancaster Street downtown. The rest of the lake area communities decided to have Trick or Treat on Halloween. Hundreds of costumed children headed to […]

Writer says signs are misleading

Editor: As a concerned citizen of Franklin Township I have two concerns about the two issues on the Nov. 8 ballot. Levy signs, like the one in the above photo, state that they are paid for by Franklin Township Trustees. Did the trustees use their own personal funds to pay for these signs OR did they pay for the signs […]

Yates responds to conflict claims

Editor: As I contemplate my response to a “conflict of interest” concern its Trick-or- Treat night in Millersport. I’m thinking how ironic it is to be answering to people in disguise. The “conflict of interest” concern is answered with ORC 505.011 (Trustee may serve as a volunteer firefighter or policeman). I intend to be transparent to the Ohio Ethics Commission […]

Editor: In response to opinions published in last week’s Beacon: Regarding trash collection: The citizens of Bowling Green Township elect trustees to make decisions in the best interest of the township. We are not trying to take away your right to choose your service provider; however, by using one company throughout the township, we can reduce the number and frequency […]

Chorpenning responds to letters

Editor: Thanks to The Beacon for this opportunity to respond to letters in last week’s Beacon from my political opponent’s daughter and his next door neighbor. I sincerely commend them both for putting their names on their criticisms in contrast to the anonymous attacks in 2009. I am not defensive about them for they have THEIR opinions. They observe through […]

Writer gets history lesson

Editor: Last month I got the opportunity to attend a meeting and dinner at the Millersport American Legion with its members. Before dinner, Bob Weldon and I talked with many long time Legion members and got a first hand history lesson concerning the growth and transformation of the Buckeye Lake area during the last 60 years. Their memories are sharp […]
