This is it for Election Letters!

This is our last week for letters about candidates and issues on the Nov. 2 ballot. It has been The Beacon’s long-standing policy not to print election letters in the final issue before an election. Our policy was put in place to stop last minute ‘hit and run’ attacks.

Writer responds to anti-levy letter

Editor: Last week’s letter from Dave Kenmir of Thornville on the Lakewood Local School District levy (“Writer says your vote will force reform”) contained too many errors to rebut in 250 words. However, I will attempt to clarify as many errors as possible by using as few words as possible. * Federal aid: I assume Mr. Kenmir means the $361 […]

Trustee supports Lakewood

Editor: To our friends, neighbors, and residents throughout the Lakewood School District: I am currently a Licking Township Trustee and a former two term Lakewood School Board member. My wife Sandy and I have resided in and supported the Lakewood School District since 1970. We both attended the open public information forums and thoroughly reviewed the financial and budgetary information […]

Tory supports Schaffer

Editor: I’m now a Florida resident so I don’t get to vote here anymore. So I’m asking readers to vote on my behalf in at least one race. Tim Schaffer is running for reelection as our State Senator in the 31st District. I won’t take your time to list his record of accomplishments. You can find them on his website […]

Thornville levies are critical

Thornville Village voters will see two levies on the Nov. 2 ballot – a 2.4 mill, five-year General Operating levy, and a 1.0 mill, five- year General Operating levy. These levies become effective January 1, 2011. Since both are RENEWAL LEVIES your property taxes WILL NOT increase. The day-to-day operations of the village, except for water and sewer, run off […]

Editor: Please join me in voting FOR Lakewood schools on November 2nd. As a teacher and taxpayer of the Lakewood district, I am proud to support our EXCELLENT schools. Here are some points I’d like my constituents to consider. Lakewood’s need for additional funds does not stem from financial mismanagement, but because the state of Ohio no longer funds 4.4 […]

Writer wants Yates on the run if she needs paramedics

Editor: There’s a rumor going around that Millersport Fire Chief Bill Yates is not certified as a paramedic and doesn’t go on runs. To set the record straight, our chief is certified and has the highest number of runs so far this year at 170. If you want to see copies of his certification and the monthly run reports please […]

Street supervisor explains Millersport street levy

Editor: For the last 21 years I have had the pleasure and honor of serving Millersport residents by working for our Village Street Department. Through the years, we have accomplished a number of projects, which would have been impossible without our street levy. I would like to take the opportunity to explain how important this levy is for our village. […]

Schaffer makes his case for your support

Editor: I ask Beacon readers for your vote for the Ohio Senate 31st district because I am focused on a vision for our communities’ future – creating jobs by cutting taxes and reshaping Ohio’s regulatory structure, leading anti-corruption reforms and building the best school system in America. Creating good-paying jobs by cutting taxes and keeping capital investment in Ohio are […]
