BUCKEYE LAKE – Volunteers who served free summer lunches to youth all over Licking County finally had a chance to serve themselves as the group recently gathered for a picnic at the North Shore Boat Ramp. Salvation Army of Central Ohio volunteer coordinator Kaye Hartman said many local youths 18 and under receive free lunches at school, but schools are closed in the summer. “During the summer, the Salvation Army picks up the grant and provides lunches,” she said. Hartman said the Buckeye Lake Youth Association volunteered Ryan-Braden Park to serve village youths. Buckeye Lake Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Marianne Perine coordinated the Buckeye Lake volunteers. Hartman said the Buckeye Lake volunteers served more than 1,300 lunches this summer over 56 days. She said county-wide, the Salvation Army served 38,600 lunches this summer.
