Buckeye Lake artist and sculptor Ray King recently was awarded an unusual commission. King is sculpting the head for the “Headless Sherman” statue that now stands at the Brookview Village Center on Ohio 256 in Pickerington. The 17,000 pound statue originally created by noted folk artist Brice Baughman in 1918 stood for years at Brice Baughman Memorial Park off Ohio 586 in Muskingum County. Vandals stole the head in 1968. King first created the clay model on the right and is now chipping away at the heavy sandstone block. Visitors are welcome to watch his progress at his Ohio 79 studio.
