Hebron Fire Department took delivery of a new Horton Emergency Systems medic on November 14. The diesel-powered Ford chassis made its first runs Nov. 15. Horton builds its medic boxes in Grove City. The new Medic 2 replaces a 1992 Horton with 99,726 miles. The current Medic 1 is a 2003 Horton model with 55,769 miles. Union Township purchased the new medic for just under $140,000. The old Medic 2 was also purchased by the township for about $52,000 in 1992. The department tries to limit each medic to about 10,000 miles a year, hoping to get at least 10 years of service out of each vehicle. Beacon photo by Charles Prince.
