The Christmas Story came alive December 8 at Millersport United Methodist Church. Visitors to “Night in Bethlehem” first came across Mary and Joseph with a donkey as they headed to Bethlehem for the census and to pay their taxes. Inside the church, visitors registered and pay their taxes before entering a Bethlehem market. Children could spend money at several shops. Shepherds lead small groups out into the cold night where they were tending sheep and goats. The outside journey included a stop with the Three Kings and their camels as they too headed to Bethlehem. Visitors reentered the church, walking to a manger with Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child in the darkened sanctuary. The annual production involved dozens of costumed volunteers plus more than a dozen animals including three camels. Beacon photos by Charles Prince.
