The Lakewood Drama Department presents Cheaper by the Dozen, Friday and Saturday Nov. 18 and 19, 7:30 p.m. at Lakewood High School. Tickets are $7 and there is a free senior matinee Thursday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m. Close to 90 students are involved in this production. Cheaper by the Dozen is based on the book of the same name by Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. It’s the true story of this brother and sister growing up, but mainly it’s about their father. Frank Bunker Gilbreth, Sr. was a pioneer in motion study. But, Gilbreth is known mostly as the Cheaper by the Dozen clan’s father. With his loving wife by his side in all of his family and business endeavors, this loving family man often used his family as his guinea pigs in his latest research. This is the story of an amazing family, which although they lived 80 years ago, is similar to today’s families. It’s a heartwarming story perfect for the holiday season. Beacon photo by Scott Rawdon.
