More than 100 tomato lovers turned out August 12 for NightCrawler Gardens’ second annual tomato tasting at the Pleasantville Road greenhouse. The event was held in cooperation with Fairfield County’s Master Gardeners. NightCrawler owner Jason England began the event last year to showcase the wide variety of heirloom tomatoes that he grows at the greenhouse. Attendees were treated to delicious recipes by Chuck Reinhart, winner of the recipe contest at last year’s event. He shared a tomato soup recipe that has been handed down through his family from pioneer days. This spring NightCrawler offered 78 varieties of heirloom and hybrid tomato plants. England plans to continue to increase the number of tomato varieties available and will respond to interested interest in peppers by adding many new varieties for next year. NightCrawler is a locally owned family business in its seventh growing season. Courtesy photo. 021p1.jpg
