HEBRON - Hebron Elementary School will have a new principal next school year.

Lakewood School Board members unanimously approved Superintendent Mary Kay Andrews’ choice of Nicole E. Henry to replace Hebron Elementary School principal Dee Martindale who is moving to a newly created district position of STEM Education Coordinator.

The unanimous approval (4-0) came at a Wednesday evening special meeting. Henry’s appointment for a one-year contract at $84,110 was included on the superintendent’s consent agenda along with the employment of Trevor Sams as a high school science teacher on a oneyear contract. Board member Jonathan Lynch requested that Henry’s appointment be removed from the consent agenda so it could be discussed separately.

Henry is a Pickerington resident who has been a Columbus City Schools elementary principal since 2011. After completing a one-year stint as a leadership intern in two Columbus elementary schools, she served four years as principal at Maize Elementary School. She then moved to Duxberry Arts IMPACT Elementary, serving three years as principal.

Her teaching experience consists of 14 years as a Drama Specialist at Fair Arts IMPACT Elementary and Walnut Ridge High School. Henry has a Bachelor of Arts and Theatre/Special Certification K-12 from Ohio Wesleyan University, a Master of Arts from The Ohio State University and an Administrative License, Administration/ Policy & Leadership from The Ohio State University. This summer she entered OSU’s accelerated superintendent licensure program.

In other business Wednesday evening, board members outlined the process to select a replacement for Board President Steve Thorp who resigned on May 29. The opening has now been posted (see nearby). Thorp’s term runs through December 31, 2019. Candidates must be a resident of the Lakewood Local School District and 18 years or older.
