Millersport’s annual Poppy Day is Saturday, May 5

Little Miss Poppy Queen Sarah Whetstone Little Miss Poppy Queen Sarah Whetstone MILLERSPORT – Millersport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 637’s annual Poppy Day starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday May 5.

Our Little Miss Poppy Queen for 2018, Sarah Whetstone, along with other Auxiliary members will be passing out Poppies in honor of our Veterans. Sarah is 9 years old and in the 3rd grade at Millersport Elementary School. Her parents are Josh and Lynda Whetstone of Baltimore. She is a Junior Member under her Great Grandfather, Paul Whetstone, who served in the Korean Conflict..

Poppy Day is sponsored each year by the Auxiliary to remind Americans of the sacrifices of life and health made by men and women in our Armed Forces. The petals are a rich scarlet color representing the blood that was shed by our Veterans. Like our hospitalized Veterans, these plants cannot live alone but only survive in groups. The Poppies are made by our disabled Veterans and are never sold. Your contributions are devoted entirely to rehabilitation and child welfare efforts for Veterans and their families.

Unit 637 will also be having their No-Bake Bake Sale in May. Members and anyone else who would like to contribute can make monetary donations to the Auxiliary. You can also purchase the best dishcloths ever from any of our members or at the Olde Canal Restaurant. Call Carol Kitzmiller at 740-467-2234 for more information.

Thank you to all who support our Veterans.
