Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

A Landscape for the Ages – from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 2. Cost: Non-members - $10; Members – Free. There are sometimes events that change the course of things for many years. What are some events that have occurred in the past that have helped evolve The Dawes Arboretum into the institution it is today? This PowerPoint lecture will cover collection history and development, storms, insect invasions and other factors that have had, or could have, great impact in the future development of The Arboretum.

Holiday Greenery Workshop - From noon to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7; 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8; 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9; or noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9. Bring your friends or family and enjoy the views of the great outdoors while creating a beautiful holiday centerpiece or wreath. Everything you need to create your holiday masterpiece will be provided in a kit; please choose from rustic or glittery. Cost: Nonmembers - $40; Members - $30.

Owl Call Night Hike - From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, December 15. Cost: Non-members - $10; Members - $5. Did you know that four species of owls call Ohio home? This event will begin with a short program on the life of these majestic creatures and how to identify them by call. Afterwards, participants will hike into The Arboretum’s Deep Woods where we will attempt to locate these birds of prey in their natural habitat.

New Year’s Eve Hike - From 9 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, December 31. Cost: Non-members - $10; Members - $5. End 2017 on a good foot with a morning hike through The Arboretum. Includes hiking on paved and unpaved trails. Dress for the weather.

The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. For more information visit www.dawesarb.org

Granville Farmers Market - Granville. The market is now indoors at the Granville Elementary School auditorium. Hours are 9:30 to noon on Saturdays. All kinds of good thing to eat and drink.

Open Gym - Christ United Methodist Church, Baltimore. Christ United UMC will host an open gym in its Family Life Center, 700 S. Main St., on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Nov. 28 through March 22. Family gym will be held from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Children age 6 and younger must be accompanied by a related adult. Open gym for those who are age 14 and older will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. All participants must complete a permission/waiver form before being allowed to play. Forms are available through the church office, Facebook page and website, and will be available at open gym. Direct questions to the church office at 740-862-4343.

Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival - Ohio Expo Center. A celebration of Chinese culture returns to the Ohio Expo Center through January 7, with more lantern displays, more culture programs and more fun! Get ready to experience Columbus in a whole new light with exquisite lanterns, amazing nightly performances, and various handicrafts demonstrations!

Cost: Online: $15 - Adults; $12 - Children Under 18; please refer to the event website for other discount tickets; Onsite Box Office Hours nightly from 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm starting November 17; performances are included in festival admission.

Annual Journey to Bethlehem - Walnut Creek. The annual Journey to Bethlehem community event starts Friday, December 1, at the Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, 2619 144, Sugarcreek, OH 44681. It also runs Saturday, December 2.

Plenty of parking is available at the church. Shuttles will be available to take you into the town of Walnut Creek for the next stops. It’s a free event for visitors and locals alike. Each of seven dramatic stops illustrates the biblical Christmas story of Jesus’ birth and is hosted by local businesses.

Tips for your visit: The Journey involves both driving and walking, so be sure to wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes. The Live Nativity parking area is very dark so it might be a good idea to bring a small flashlight.

Columbus Winterfair - Ohio Expo Center. The Columbus Winterfair returns Dec. 1 - 3, with fine arts and crafts. Browse the holiday artists’ market and find unique and beautiful handcrafted items for the home, office or gift giving. Artists from across the nation will be showcasing their traditional and contemporary crafts including ceramics, wood, glass, painting, metals, fiber, jewelry, photography, sculpture and more. Hours: Friday and Saturday - 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Sunday - 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Cost: Adults - $7; Youth (12 and under) - Free (note: ticket is valid all three days). Winter Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show - Hilliard. Stop in and support local artists at the winter Avant-Garde Art & Crafts Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, the Makoy Event Center, 5462 Center St., Hilliard, OH, 43026. This show will feature an array of local artisans and crafters selling their original works! General admission is $3, children 12 years and younger are free. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the local charity: Hope Hollow, a non-profit that provides services and free lodging to families and their friends undergoing cancer treatments at local hospitals. Beginning Knitting and Crochet Class - Buckeye Lake Library. Learn a new hobby for the winter at noon on Saturday, December 2, at the Buckeye Lake Library. Please bring your own supplies. Instructor suggest knitting needles size 7 - 8, and crochet needles size G or H.

Little Lakers Story Time - Buckeye Lake Library. You and your child age birth to three are invited to our Little Lakers Story Time at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, December 6 through 20. Enjoy great books, learn fun songs and rhymes, and meet other families in your neighborhood.

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus Visit - Hebron Library. Santa and Mrs. Claus will both be arriving on a fire truck at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, to visit boys and girls. Bring your camera to capture Santa reading a story, passing out gifts, and hearing children’s wish lists.

Speaker Series: The Burning Tree Mastodan & Ohio’s Ice Age - Burton D Morgan Center Auditorium, Denison University. Join the Licking Park District from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 7, at the Burton D Morgan Center Auditorium, Denison University, for a fun and informative talk. Brad Lepper, Archaeology and Natural History Manager & Curator of Archaeology with the Ohio History Connection, is our December speaker.

Santa and Reindeer Visit - Buckeye Lake Library. Join Santa and his reindeer at 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, at this holiday event. Learn about reindeer from Pine Acres Reindeer Farm.

Saturday Morning Hike - Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Get outside and enjoy the holiday season! Meet at Shelter 4 at Infirmary Mound Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 16. If there is snow we will try out our snowshoes.

Self- Defense for Womby en - Hebron Library. Master Chuck Chirdon and Sensei Anita Chirdon, black belts with Koroshi School of Defense, teach basic techniques at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 16.. Registration required!

Holiday Make & Take: Pinterest with the Parks - Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Join us from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, for Make It and Take It: Natural Ornaments program. Adults and families are invited to make creative Pinterest inspired projects incorporating pine cones, tree cookies, and other natural objects. These easy-to-make seasonal crafts can be used to brighten your home, be placed outside in your yard, or as a gift for some of our wild neighbors.


“French Connections” - OSU-Newark. The University Chorus at The Ohio State University at Newark will present “French Connections” on Friday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Founder’s Hall Auditorium at the Ohio State Newark campus. The event is free and open to the public. Choral works in French, Latin and English spanning more than four centuries will be presented the ensemble.

Jeff & Sheri Easter - Ohio Valley Opry, McConnelsville. Morgan County’s popular country, gospel, and bluegrass music show- the Ohio Valley Opry- will be featuring Jeff and Sheri Easter on for two shows on Saturday, December 2, at the Twin City Opera House in McConnelsville. The show is in conjunction with the annual downtown Twin City Christmas event.

For Jeff and Sheri, gospel music is genetically programmed into their DNA. As members of acclaimed musical families - Jeff’s father is one of the Easter Brothers and Sheri’s mother is a member of The Lewis Family - they grew up surrounded by the sound of people praising God through their musical gifts.

Jeff & Sheri have won six Dove Awards. They have also participated in the Gaither Homecoming Video Series since 1993.
