Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Speaker Series: Lighten Up for the Holidays – 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 11. Recommended donation is $2 per person. Shari Gallup from the OSU Extension Office will share practical ways to lighten up your favorite recipes for a healthier holiday season.

Clay Victorian Holiday Ornaments – from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 11. Cost: Non-members - $30; Members - $25. Paint and decorate a trio of ornaments to adorn your holiday display. These Victorian-inspired decorations are hand-crafted by local clay artist, Mary Grace Robertson. You’ll take home a star, a snowflake and a cone, perfect for displaying springs of greenery or flowers.

Grafting the Right Way – from 8 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, November 17. Cost: Nonmembers - $40; Members - $3. In this hands-on workshop, The Arboretum’s Propagator instructs participants on the art and science of grafting to ensure future success in reproducing plants at home. Rootstock and scion wood are provided; attendees may bring their own scion wood, if appropriate rootstock is available. All participants take home their own grafted material to nurture. This workshop is appropriate for ages 14 and above. Children must be supervised by an adult.

Green Friday Walk – from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, November 24. Don’t sit around or go holiday shopping – relax outdoors on a nice leisurely stroll as you walk off all the turkey, stuffing and pie you enjoyed on Thanksgiving Day! Traverse paved and unpaved trails as well as uneven terrain with the Executive Director, Luke Messinger. Dress for the weather. This program is free however we do request registration.

A Landscape for the Ages – from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 2. Cost: Non-members - $10; Members – Free. There are sometimes events that change the course of things for many years. What are some events that have occurred in the past that have helped evolve The Dawes Arboretum into the institution it is today? This PowerPoint lecture will cover collection history and development, storms, insect invasions and other factors that have had, or could have, great impact in the future development of The Arboretum.

Granville Farmers Market - Granville. The market now moves indoors to the Granville Elementary School auditorium. Hours are 9:30 to noon on Saturdays. All kinds of good thing to eat and drink.

Chicken & Noodle Benefit Dinner - Buckeye Lake Fire Department. Help Buckeye Lake Police Officer Andy Davis and his family have a great Christmas. Stop by from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Buckeye Lake Fire Department for a delicious meal. Menu is chicken noodles, mashed potatoes, green bean, cole slaw, dessert and drinks. Cost is a donation. Sponsored by the Buckeye Lake Firefighters Association.

Ohio National Poultry Breeders Show - Ohio Expo Center. The Ohio National Poultry Breeders Show features approximately 5,000 birds and their dedicated owners in this extensive national show from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 and 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12. Mid-Ohio Cluster Dog Show - Ohio Expo Center. This confirmation show, sponsored by four kennel clubs, will include approximately 2,000 dogs each day, representing more than 150 breeds, from all over the United States and Canada. Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 through Sunday, Nov. 19. Ohio Chinese Lantern Festival - Ohio Expo Center. A celebration of Chinese culture returns to the Ohio Expo Center November 17 through January 7, with more lantern displays, more culture programs and more fun! Natural Thanksgiving Centerpiece Class - Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Come and get creative from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, at the James Bradley Senior Center at the Infirmary Mound Park. Our instructor will teach you how to use natural objects and greens found in the park, as well as traditional floral arrangement techniques, to make your own Thanksgiving centerpiece. Cost: $10. Doubt: A Parable - OSUNewark. Equity Actor Susan Pingleton* will make a special appearance in the play Doubt: A Parable by playwright John Patrick Shanley set to open at the Black Box Theater on November 9 on the shared campus of The Ohio State University and Central Ohio Technical College. She will be playing the role of Sr. Aloysius Beauvier. In this brilliant and powerful drama, Sister Aloysius, a Bronx school principal, takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the 12-year-old male students.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 9 and will run through Sat., Nov. 11 and again Nov. 16-18. Additionally, there will be two matinees at 2 p.m. on Sundays, Nov. 12 and 19. All performances are held at the Black Box Theater in LeFevre Hall located on the Newark campus at 1199 University Drive, Newark, OH 43055. General admission is $10 and student tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door.

Milllersport Community Theatre Cabaret Show - Millersport. Millersport Community Theatre presents a free Cabaret Show at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, in the Millersport Elementary Cafeteria. Donations will be accepted and desserts and beverage will be provided. Plan to come to enjoy and relax with a evening of great music and a fun time.
