VFW scholarships are available

Editor:

It’s time to start thinking about money for school. At any level, money is always needed for school.

The Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 1388 and The VFW sponsor several scholarships during the year. There is the Voice of Democracy and the Creative Patriotic Art Contest, for high school students, and Patriots Pen, for junior high aged students. The Ladies Auxiliary also offers a Jr. Girl’s Scholarship and a Continuing Education Scholarship for members and their immediate family.

There are fewer and fewer applicants each year so there is more money for those who do apply and are chosen. All it takes is a little time and effort. Anyone who is interested, please call me during the day at 740-929-2617. I will be happy to explain each program and will send you an application.

The schools don’t want to be bothered so this is something students need to do on their own.

We are also having a Fish Fry Fund Raiser to benefit the VA Hospital from 4 -8 p.m. or until we run out on Friday, August 22. We will also be having our annual Labor Day Breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon. Our big Cancer Fund Raiser is a Poker Run and Cans 4 Cancer on Saturday, Sept. 6. Information on Veterans issues and VFW membership will be available all day. You can serve those that served in our military so we can enjoy the freedoms that we do. Everybody is welcome at all these events. Please watch for our ads in The Beacon for more details.

God Bless Our Veterans and God Bless America.
