Boating courses offered

BUCKEYE LAKE- The Ohio Division of Watercraft will offer several boating courses this year at the Buckeye Lake Watercraft Office in Millersport. Contact the Alum Creek office, (740) 548- 5490 or alumcreek.watercraft@ dnr.state.oh.us for registration.

Courses include:

• Trailering workshop, April 20, 8 a.m. to noon, to practice turning, backing, stopping, preparing boat for launch and travel, and courtesy at the dock. Cost is $10 per person and participants must have completed a boater safety education course.

• Power boating basics to learn safe and proper methods of operating a power boat while reducing the likelihood of being involved in an accident, including launching and retrieving boats, trailering and dock procedures, and basic open water boat operations. Cost is $25 adults and $15 ages 12 to 17.

• ACA Quick State canoe/ kayak course Sept. 13, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. covering basic strokes, safety, potential hazards, and rescues. Equipment is provided.

• Free vessel safety checks at Buckeye Lake North Shore and Liebs Island ramps May 17 and 18, noon to 2 p.m.
