James Hugh May

James Hugh May, 94 of Pickerington died at McNaughten Pointe Nursing home on January 14, 2014. He was born June 22, 1919, in Basil, to the late James and Chloe (Basinger) May. Hugh retired from Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company, now American Electric Power. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was the oldest living member of the American Legion Post 283 in Pickerington. Hugh was a member at Mt. Zion Church, and St. Michael’s United Church of Christ in Baltimore. He was a 1937 graduate of Liberty Union High School.

He is survived by daughter, Norma Jean (James) Weaver; son, Richard E. (Vicki A.) May; 15 year companion, Ellen McDaniel; granddaughters, Jo Ellen (Steve) Irwin, Kim (Kyle) Snider and Elesha May; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kaleb Snider, Emily Irwin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Hugh is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Esther L. (Griffith) May.

Funeral service was January 18, 2014, at the Dwayne R. Spence Funeral Home, Pickerington, with Rev. Jill Dunlap officiating. Interment followed at Amanda Township Cemetery.
