Helen Louise Carman
Funeral services for Helen Louise Carman will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday October 18, 2013, at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, 985 N. 21st Street, Newark, with Pastor Thomas Olson presiding. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carman, age 87 formerly of Thornville, passed away October 15, 2013, at Flintridge Nursing Center, Newark. She was born November 14, 1925, in Newark, the daughter of Harry and Edna (Cooke) Caryer, raised in Thornville and was a 1945 graduate of Thornville High School. She worked with Newark City Schools retiring in 1987. Helen was a former member of Central Christian Church and current member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and member of St. John’s Naomi Group. She was a volunteer and TWIG member at Licking Memorial Hospital for 35 years and was former chairperson of Pinkie Puppet. She enjoyed times spent at Zerger Hall and traveled with tours sponsored by Park National’s Freedom Years. Helen was an avid golfer and member of three women’s golf leagues at Granville, Hillcrest and Raccoon Valley. She enjoyed all kinds of games and liked birds. She is remembered by her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Helen is survived by her son, Thomas (Teresa) Carman of Thornville; daughters, Joyce (Dew) Chaney of Newark and Carolyn (Dew) Nichols of Newark; granddaughter, Nicole (Jeremy Rine) Nichols of Belleville, WI; sister, Norma Jean (Michael) Overstreet of Zanesville; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Thomas W. Carman; grandson, Billy Nichols; brother, Donald Caryer; sister, Mary Janice Brandon; and son-in-law, Robert Chaney preceded Helen in death.
The family suggests memorial gifts, in Helen’s name, to Parkinson Support Group, C/O John Stover, 7400 Nichols Lane, Johnstown, OH 43031, Generation Hospice or St. John’s Lutheran Church.
