Horn responds to one term suggestion

Editor:

I’m responding to Carolyn Clark’s letter in last week’s Beacon. Thanks for bringing up past important decisions so others can benefit from our exchange during this important election season.

Fire Dept chaos: This was the result of an attempt in Sept. 2010, to force Millersport to agree to a township fire department. And if they did not, they would be forced to operate alone without township funding. The chaos ended when Mr. Zollinger agreed with me, casting the deciding vote for a new 4-year contract. I am pleased to report that the two departments are working very well together along with the township, thanks to the mutual efforts of the two fire chiefs - Matt Bergum and Jim Hite.

One refuse carrier for all: An ad was placed in the local papers to get feedback on this idea, and boy did the residents come out against it! It was very clear to me, before and during the meeting that residents didn’t like this idea. Thank you to everyone who took time to be heard! My commitment is to actively listen to all citizens in our township.

The 4-way stop at the Millersport School: The sign is in the Village of Millersport and the ultimate decision was made by Village Council. The new sign was part of an effort to improve safety in the school zone as recommended by the Millersport Police chief. Since part of the school zone falls within the township, trustees were asked if we would support the overall plan that covered various changes along Ohio 204.
