Recycling is back in Walnut Township

MILLERSPORT – Walnut Township Trustee Terry Horn recently announced that recycling opportunities are once again available to township residents.

The township facility on Millersport Road is now a household recycling drop-off location for the Lancaster-Fairfield County Community Action Agency’s Recycling Program. There is no cost to Walnut Township.

The agreement with Community Action states that they will service the drop off site, which includes cleaning up the area when they pick up and drop off the recycling trailers. They will also come on an as-needed basis for clean up. In addition, Community Action will pay the township $500 at the end of each year for maintenance at the drop off location.

Trustees are asking residents to comply with the drop-off rules which list the items accepted and ask that recyclables be placed fully into the containers. Trustees welcome comments from recyclers as the township gets a little greener on behalf of the environment.

The following items can be dropped off in the containers at 11420 Millersport Rd., Millersport:

• Aluminum cans
• Steel cans
• Newspaper
• Magazines
• Catalogs
• Office paper
• Mail
• Phone books

• Paperboard
• Corrugated cardboard
• Glass bottles and jars
• #1 and #2 plastic

The township continues to collect used motor oil to heat the township garage. Auto and truck batteries are also accepted.
