It’s time to get school immunizations

NEWARK – Now is the time to have your child immunized for school. Clinic appointment slots are filling up quickly. Parents are urged to contact their healthcare provider or the health department to insure all needed immunizations have been received by their child, prior to the first day of school.

Incoming kindergarten students need to have:

• 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine,
• 2 doses of MMR ( Measles, Mumps,
and Rubella),
• 2 doses of Varicella (chickenpox),
• 3-4 doses of IPV (Polio), and
• 4-5 doses of DtaP.

Incoming 7th grade students need to have had one dose of Tdap vaccine. This vaccine protects against whooping cough, a disease prevalent in Licking County. A 7th grade student is also eligible for the HPV (Human papillomavirus) vaccine and a vaccine to protect against meningitis.

Children who come to school without the required vaccinations risk being excluded from school until all requirements are met.

Please, don’t delay any longer. Call your child’s healthcare provider or the Licking County Health Department at 740-349-6535 for an appointment.
