A Classic Weekend
The star of the free show was Jack K. Beatley’s 1927 Chris Craft Cadet. “Chief Waramaug,” displayed on a trailer in two photos below, was the 2012 A ntique and Classic Boat Society’s National Boat of the Year .
The Cadet is 22 feet long with a six foot beam, drawing 22 inches of water. Constructed entirely of Mahogany, it reaches speeds of 25-35 mph. It is powered by an in-board 127 HP Scripps F6 Junior Gold Cup engine. The six cylinder, four-cycle engine displaces 331 cubic inches. Only 361 were built during its 1925- 1930 production run.
‘Chief’ is one of the 18-1927 Cadets listed in the Society’s Directory. Only four F6 Junior Gold Cup engines are listed.
