National Boat of Year will be at Boats on the Canal

MILLERSPORT – Chief Waramaug, the 2012 Antique and Classic Boat Society National Boat of the Year, will be at Boats on the Canal on Saturday, June 15.

‘Chief Waramaug’ is a 1927 Chris Craft Cadet outfitted with a 127 HP Scripps F6 Junior Gold Cup engine. The six cylinder, four-cycle engine displaces 331 cubic inches. Only 361 were built during its 1925-1930 production run.

The Cadet is 22 feet long witha6footbeam,drawing22 inches. Constructed entirely of Mahogany, it reaches speeds of 25-35 mph. The boat was used periodically on Lake Waramaug in Connecticut until the start of WWII. After years of little use, it was sold in 1979. A two-year complete restoration was finished in 2003.

‘Chief’ is one of the 18 1927 Cadets listed in the Society’s Directory. Only four Scripps F6 Junior Gold Cup engines are listed in the Directory.

It is now owned by Jack K. Beatley of Columbus.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Canal Drive. Admission is free!
