Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Bonsai Show- June 8 - June 9, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Experience something different at The Dawes Arboretum -– attend the 33rd annual Bonsai Show! Watch a karate demonstration each day by students of the Sprague Shotokan Karate System, Japanese cultural items on display, free demonstrations and a silent auction. The show includes nearly 100 bonsai specimens in the Visitors Center and Bonsai Courtyard as well as vendors on the Visitors Center Deck with supplies for all your bonsai needs. The Saturday work shop, 1 to 4 p.m., focuses on Beginning Bonsai, perfect for those just starting out ($35 fee; registration required).

1st Saturday Garden Wagon Tour, Saturday, June 1, 10 to 11 a.m. Join us on as we explore different plant collections around The Arboretum. These are guided tours with an emphasis on plants that will have you hopping off the wagon for a closer look! FREE, donations welcome, meet at the Visitors Center Deck.

The Visitors Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays and holidays. For more information visit www.dawes arb.org

Queen Of The Lake II Tour Boat - Buckeye Lake. Public tours begin Saturday, May 4, for the season on beautiful Buckeye Lake aboard the Queen of the Lake tour boat. Tours depart every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., boarding at Buckeye Lake State Park North Shore in the Village of Buckeye Lake off Ohio 79. Cost is $10 per person with children under 5 years free. The one-hour tour includes Buckeye Lake history told by a a local volunteer. Reservations are not needed. The boat has a sun roof and hold 40 passengers. Buckeye Lake Carp Fest - North Shore Boat Ramp, Buckeye Lake. Help Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow reduce the lake’s excessive carp population. More than $3,000 in cash prizes will be awarded for carp caught dur- ing the second Annual Carp Fest June 7-19. Registration is just $5 per fisherman. Pre-register from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays at Z’s Village Market on Ohio 79 in Buckeye Lake Village. On-site registration begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7. Cash prizes will be awarded for the most carp by weight caught over the 48-hour tournament and for the largest carp by weight caught during the same time. Daily cash prizes will also be awarded. There are separate cash prizes for youth (under 16), teams (two members) and families (up to four fishing and no more than two adults). For more information visit www.buckeyelakefortomorrow.org. Community Yard Sale - Millersport. Spaces are available for $15 each at the 3rd Annual Community Yard Sale sponsored by the Millersport Lions Club from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at the Sweet Corn Festival grounds. Call 740-467-0941 for more information.

Summer Reading Programs - Hebron. School’s out but that doesn’t mean the reading stops! Kids who are in kindergarten to 5th grade can register for the “Dig into Reading” summer reading program, and win prizes for reading for 2, 4, 8, and 12 hours. Teens in grades 6-12 can sign up for the “Beneath the Surface” reading program, and even adult readers can participate in their own “Groundbreaking Reads” summer reading program. The library will offer weekly activities for kid and teens, and a monthly program for adults, and all three programs will offer a chance to compete for a Grand Prize -- a summer goodie bag for kids, and a Kindle Fire for teens and adults. Register now through the end of the program on July 26. Readers will receive a reading log to keep track of their reading time, and a list of the library’s summer reading events. Activities for kids will begin on Tuesday, June 11th at 11:00 a.m. with magician David Lehman’s “The Magic of Laughter”. On Thursday, June 13th at 5:00 p.m. teens will learn how to make decorative survival bracelets with Charlotte Watts. No registration is required for these activities.

Discovering Skunks! - William C. Kraner Nature Center, Newark. Join us between 12-4 on Saturday, June 1, and learn about the “stinkiest” animal in Ohio. We will have a live skunk on display (de-scented, of course) for your up close viewing enjoyment!

Test Your Nature IQ - William C. Kraner Nature Center, Newark. Come on out to the center between the hours of 12-4 on Sunday, June 2, to test your knowledge of reading signs in nature. We’ll also have a Scavenger Hunt and some FUN quizzes to test your nature savvy. There may even be a prize or two!

Baltimore Lions Golf Outing - Lancaster. The public Is invited to the Baltimore Lions Golf Outing on Saturday, June 22, at Pleasant Valley Golf Course, Lancaster. The format is a three-person scramble beginning with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $180 per team for 18 holes, a cart, a steak dinner and drinks.
