Doris Edna Cordray
A funeral service, celebrating the life of Doris Edna Cordray, 100, of Newark, formerly of Hebron, will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the Hebron home of The Hoskinson- Schoedinger Funeral & Cremation Service, with Pastor Jeff Gill as celebrant. Burial will follow at Kirkersville Cemetery.
Doris died peacefully April 20, 2013, in Newark, following a period of declining health. She was born in Glouster, Ohio, on April 8, 1913, the daughter of the late William Herman and Angeline Florence (Lyle) Fierbaugh. On June 8, 1933, she married Charles Avery Cordray in Chauncey, Ohio, and they made their home for many years in Hebron. Charles preceded her in death on December 6, 1995.
Doris loved music, playing the piano and organ. She worked tirelessly as a musician at the Hebron Christian Church, and also accompanied school musical programs for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Ann Sunkle of Massillon; her grandchildren, Ernie (Betty Jo) Cordray, Jean Ann (Ingram) Caulley, Connie (Chuck) Grissom and Joyce (Tim) Blackstone; her nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Dan Avery Cordray; her son-in-law, John Sunkle; her two sisters, May and Thelma; and her brother, Herman.
