Arbor Day Festival - Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. It’s Arbor Day - a celebration of trees and nature! This annual outdoor event is sponsored in part by The Energy Cooperative. Families can expect a fun-filled day with lots of hands-on learning opportunities, crafts, displays, and tree climbing. The festival features Dr. Insecta and his Incredible Unforgettable Bug Lab Experience, a fusion of entomology and magic that will delight all ages! Arboretum staff will be on hand showcasing and selling nursery plants. Plus, the first 250 families have an opportunity to take home their own tree to plant in honor of Arbor Day. FREE

Denison Museum Family Day and Book-making Workshop - Granville. The Denison Museum will host a Family Day event at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, in the Denison Museum in Burke Hall (241 West College Street). The museum will offer a book-making workshop along with other family-friendly events. Refreshments will be served and all ages are welcome. This event is free and open to the public. International Astronomy Day - William C. Kraner Nature Center, Newark. Join some amateur astronomers from 4:00 - 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, as we bring you this family oriented and HANDS ON celebration of astronomy. After sunset, we’ll bring out the telescopes and binoculars for some stargazing and also view the Lyrids Meteor Shower. Bring grillables to cook over a campfire or we’ll have some for sale. Cost is $5 per person or $15 for a family of 4.
A Walk Along the Tow Path - Buckeye Lake Library. Local canal historian Jim Reed presents “ A Walk Along the Tow Path with Jimmy, the Tow Boy” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25. He will be discussing our historic canal from Canal Crossing to Bickel Church Road around the year 1848. FREE! Friends of the Buckeye Lake Library will be offering early registration discounts for their annual 5K Walk on Saturday, June 22, along Canal Road.

Full Pool Breakfast - Buckeye Lake. Kickoff the lake season with the Buckeye Lake Region Chamber of Commerce’s Full Pool Breakfast from 7 - 9 a.m. on Friday, April 26, at the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club. Jim Matheny Kar Shoz - Buckeye Lake. Jim Matheny presents the first car show of the season in Licking County on Saturday, April 27. The 5th Annual Buckeye Lake Show benefits the Buckeye Lake Historical Society & Museum. Bring your favorite set of wheels to the Buckeye Lake State Park North Shore in the Village of Buckeye Lake on State Route 79. Show from noon to 5 p.m. with registration from noon to 3 p.m. with awards at 4:30. Cost is $8 per car and the show is open to all cars. Door prizes, trivia, music and food for all. Heisey Wind Ensemble Pops Concert - Newark. The final concert of their 2012-13 season is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, at The Reese Center at Ohio State University Newark/ COTC. The 60 member concert band will present “Evening at the Pops” with a theme of New York, New York and two selections from “Les Miserables” with soprano soloist Erin McCloskey on “I Dreamed A Dream” and tenor soloist Don Rogers on “Bring Him Home.” Tickets are available only at the door. Dark Star Jubilee - Thornville. The Dark Star Jubilee returns Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-26, to Legend Valley in Thornville. Hosted and curated by world-renowned Grateful Dead tribute band, Dark Star Orchestra, the Jubilee also features members of The Dead in their own bands, the Mickey Hart Band and Donna Jean Band. Other artists confirmed include Yonder Mountain String Band, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, The Wailers, The New Orleans Suspects featuring Paul Barrere & Fred Tackett of Little Feat, and local favorites.
