Dorothy M. Barrett Probasco

Dorothy M. Barrett Probasco, age 84, of Newark, passed away peacefully April 7, 2013, at The Arlington Care Center. She was born on November 24, 1928, in Chillicothe to the late James and Mae (O ‘Dell) Bell.

Dorothy retired from the State of Ohio Housing Department where she proudly worked for 20 years. For many years, Dorothy was a member of the Buckeye Lake Senior Citizens and served on the Board of the Buckeye Lake Youth Association. Her happiest moments were spent helping people and she truly thrived in taking care of others. She will always be remembered as a devoted friend and a loving mother. Dorothy was a long-time parishioner of St. Paul’ s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She is survived by three sons, Dick (Wanda) Barrett of Heath, Tom (Peggy) Barrett of Enterprise, Alabama and Brian (Theresa) Barrett of Newark; seven grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Jack (Charlene) Bell and Bill (Bert) Bell both of Chillicothe; and longtime friend, Mrs. Billie Deck.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Joseph L. Barrett; her second husband, Richard L. Probasco; daughter, Roberta M. Turner; brother, Richard Bell; and grandchildren, Richard T. Barrett and Kimberly D. Barrett.

The Newark Chapel of Henderson Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. A committal service with inurnment will be held at a later date at Newark Memorial Gardens with Rev. William J. Rauch officiating.
