Jason Edward Smith
A funeral service, celebrating the life of Jason Edward Smith, age 37, of Thornville, was held March 27, 2013, at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Lancaster, with Pastor Phillip W. Manning as celebrant. Burial followed at Blendon Township Cemetery in Westerville.
Jason was born March 14, 1976, in Chillicothe and died March 22, 2013, in Lancaster, following an extended illness.
Jason proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Cushing DD-376. He truly loved life and with a free spirit enjoyed everything he did. He loved spending time with his family and friends; and with his witty, keen sense of humor he spread his joy. History was his life, which coupled with his photographic memory, he could recall almost any event, in great detail, in history that was asked of him. He enjoyed technical things, including computers and electronics. His favorite toys in life were G.I. Joe and the Transformers. He also was an avid OSU football fan.
During Jason’s last months of his struggle with cancer, he greatly impacted the lives of many by serving at The FairHope Hospice Center in Lancaster, where he passed away. He spoke inspiration into the lives of everyone he touched!
He is survived by his loving family: father and step-mother, James and Karen Smith; mother, Peg Hawett; half-brother, Chris Nickell; sisters, Honey Lea Smith of Thornville and Mia (Phillip) Lutton of Hillsboro; nephews, William and Asher; and niece, Emma Reese.
He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Jeremy; grandparents, Betty and Wilbert Smith, Marvin and Wilma Nickell and Walter Adams; and uncles, Mark Smith and Gary Adams.
The family thanks all those who helped Jason and the family during his illness.
