COLUMBUS - Last Friday Gov. John R. Kasich announced the appointment of Craig R. Baldwin of Newark to serve as a judge on the Fifth District Court of Appeals.

Baldwin will assume office on March 11, 2013, and must run in November 2014 in order to retain the seat for the unexpired term, which ends February 9, 2017. Baldwin is replacing Julie Edwards, who retired.

Baldwin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Ohio University and earned his juris doctorate from Capital University Law School. Since 2005, he has served as a judge on the Licking County Court of Common Pleas, Domestic Relations Division.

Baldwin is a member of the Newark-Heath Rotary and a board member of the Licking County YMCA and Licking County Memorial Hospital.

His parents had a summer home on Cranberry Lane for many years.
