Please help lay Jamie Ballman to rest

Editor:

I will have a “watchdog” letter ready for next week’s Beacon. But this week, I would like to make a plea to everyone in the area.

The life of a young man, James (Jamie) Ballman, ended tragically on the night of February 2. Although I hadn’t seen him lately, I’ve known Jamie since he was a child and I can attest that he was one of the greatest kids ever! You may remember his sister, Deanna, who was the pregnant woman found dead after answering a Craigslist ad.

Jamie was gentle and kind as a child and I’m sure he grew up to be a great young man. He was in the process of rearranging his life to help care for the two small children that Deanna left behind.

At Deanna’s funeral, I was numb as I looked in the casket at the lifeless young mother holding her beautiful baby in her arms. It was one of the saddest things I have ever seen. But Jamie took the time to sit down and talk with me and, as I asked if I could do anything to help him, his chin quivered. Tears filled his eyes as he answered, “Only if you can bring my sister back.”

This family has suffered the tragedy of losing Deanna; her beautiful baby, Mabel; and now James. I am asking that we all help them collect the $4600 necessary to lay this wonderful young man to rest. The family will greatly appreciate your donation, no matter how small or large.

Your donations can be sent to: The James Ballman Memorial Fund, c/o Hoskinson Funeral Home, PO Box57, Kirkersville, Ohio 43033. The website for the funeral home is www.Hoskinsonfuneral.com.

Thank you all in advance.
