William Lewis Rutledge
A funeral service for William Lewis Rutledge, age 88, of Jacksontown, was held January 15, 2013, at the Heath Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service with Pastor Robert Beyer and Pastor Carol Kirk officiating. Burial took place in Jacksontown Cemetery.
Mr. Rutledge passed away January 10, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. He was born January 23, 1924, in Licking County, to the late Clarence Edgar and Georgia O. (Osborne) Rutledge.
Mr. Rutledge retired from Martina Metal in Columbus where he had been a foreman. He was a member of the Sheetmetal Workers Local #24. He was instrumental in founding the Jacksontown Volunteer Fire Department and was a volunteer for many years. In the 1960’s, he helped dig the pond on his property which benefited the fire department. He was a member of the Jacksontown United Methodist Church and a hall at the church was named in his honor.
He is survived by a son, Ronald L. (Brandie) Rutledge of Marne; daughter, Brandy Ruth Ann (Les) Shaffer of Jacksontown; seven grandchildren, Chris Anderson, Teasa (Jeff) Wollenburg and Curtis Anderson, all of Newark, Tandy Anderson of North Carolina, Bart (Sue) Rutledge, Darcy (Ron) Treadway and Nick Rutledge, all of Newark; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Georgianna (Baker) Rutledge; and a sister, Sarah Irene Gathagan.
