Residents urged to attend council meetings

Editor:

I wonder why the Buckeye Lake Mayor and some council members would allow the fire chief to verbally attack one of our village residents after this week’s village council meeting? The chief stood right in her face using profanity while calling her a liar. Wow! It doesn’t seem like Mayor Baker or Council President Hayden care much about our public safety.

During citizens’ comments, the resident asked why the mayor had not yet dealt with the issues surrounding the fire chief and the department. She asked very good questions about our public safety. When she returned to her seat, all residents applauded. President Hayden told her, “That is enough! This is my meeting!” Excuse me, Charlene, this is not only your meeting. It belongs to all village residents and taxpayers! Now I understand why some of our other residents would not voice their opinion. They were probably afraid of retaliation.

Earlier that evening, I attended a council committee meeting concerning a lease renewal for the drive-thru. I couldn’t believe that Hayden said we don’t want to waste taxpayer money on maintaining the building owned by the village. Oh Please! Fix the fire department if you want to save taxpayer money! Put Rod Riley in as chief and you will see a big turn around and also save wasted tax dollars.

I hope to see all residents at the next council meeting. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays at 7:30 p.m. Please come and voice your opinion.
