Richard W. Black
A memorial service for Richard W. Black of Hebron will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 42 East Church St., Newark, with the Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Dick was born October 31, 1920, in Hebron to the late Richard L. and Lena (McCall) Black. He died August 19, 2012, at Arlington Care Center. He was 91. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his brother, Laurence Black, and sister, Margaret Black.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma (Swartz) Black; sons, Rick (Beth) Black of Hebron, and Dr. Warren (Karla) Black, DVM, of Tracy, MN.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
Dick was a retired farmer and former Union Township Trustee. He was active in the community, and had served on the Lakewood Schools Board of Education, the Union Township Zoning Commission and the Licking County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Committee. He was a charter member of Agrology Club, a veteran member of the Professional Agrarians, a member of Hebron Lodge #116 F.&A.M., where he served as secretary for 16 years, Columbus Valley Scottish Rite, Licking County Farm Bureau and First Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He had also been a 4-H advisor. In 1997, Dick was inducted into the Licking County Agriculture Hall of Fame.
