More than 300 runners compete in Baltimore 5K

BALTIMORE – The 21st Annual Baltimore Festival 5K run attracted 339 runners on August 11.

In cool misty weather conditions, the race was won by Jarrod Genther, a 2012 Canal Winchester High School graduate who will be running at Ohio University this fall, in a time of 15:40. Jarrod was third in last year’s race. Second place went to Adam Schaffner, a Liberty Union graduate and cross country coach in Kentucky in 16:33. Third was Alex Moore a Groveport-Madison High School and Cedarville University graduate , in 16:38

First place in the women’s division went to Kayla Scott, a 2012 Canal Winchester graduate who will be running at Ohio University this fall, in a time of 18:01. Kayla also won last year. Sara Fondriest, a Granville High School graduate, finished second with 19:30. Jenna Furr, a junior at Caldwell High School, took third place with a 19:31.

Race director Scott Williamson presented plaques to Rob Moore and Suzie Ketchem, who were honored for their outstanding performances at the Baltimore Festival 5K Run over the last 20 years.

Liberty Union’s boys and girls cross country teams at the junior high, reserve and varsity levels thanked the event’s sponsors: B-Level LTD Concrete, Heimberger Office Machines, Pizza Cottage, Rooster’s Restaurant, Miller & Miller Insurance, Fast Max, Columbus Running Company, Bobby Layman Auto Group, Tom Jones Insurance, Keller Williams Realty (Sherry Looney), Schaffner’s Drive-In, Baltimore Chiropractic Center, Marcum Crewcut, Village Pharmacy, Columbus Eastside Running Club, Second Sole, Madison House Floral Designs, First Investors, and Fairfield Federal. Proceeds from the race support the Liberty Union Cross Country Program.
