Dawes Arboretum - Ohio 13, three miles north of I-70.

Little Buckeye Imagination Sessions – Wednesdays through August at 2 p.m. Learn with a group as the creative educators at The Dawes Arboretum bring children closer to the wonders of the natural world. Subjects include trees, flowers, weather and many creatures great and small. An assortment of fun pursuits are always in store with songs, activities, games, crafts and sometimes real animal visitors. Free at Visitors Center deck.

Poetry in Nature Art Show - August 11-26. “Poetry in Nature” is the theme of The Arboretum and Licking County Arts’ annual art show. The show features artists from all over central Ohio. Media includes watercolor, oil paint, fabric art, photography, sculpture and more. Free, open during Visitors Center hours.

Night Hike - Friday, Aug. 17 from 9 - 11 p.m. Experience The Arboretum at night! Kids and adults are welcome to attend one of our most popular programs as we hike through collections, grasslands and woodlands. Night Hikes are for individuals, couples and families. Scout troops and other groups are asked to call The Education Department for current program offerings, just for scouts and groups. Meet at the Visitors Center Deck. Free, donations welcome.

Sunset Cruises on the Queen of the Lake - Buckeye Lake. Enjoy a special sunset cruise on Buckeye Lake at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 or Saturday, Aug. 11. Queen of the Lake Public Tours - Buckeye Lake. Enjoy a relaxing and interesting tour of Buckeye Lake at 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday aboard the Queen of the Lake II. Farmers Market - Buckeye Lake. Find local produce, crafts and more from 3 - 6 p.m. on Thursdays in the Buckeye Lake Goodwill store parking lot.

Baltimore Festival - Johnson Park, Baltimore. The popular hometown festival is Aug. 8 -11. The largest parade in Fairfield County heads east on Ohio 256 to downtown at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Entertainment includes Teen Night with Johnny Garber at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9; The Frank Harrison Group at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10; Mark Wade Show at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11; and Mike Grover Band at 8 p.m. Saturday. Fireworks follow at 10 p.m. The drawing for $500 follows the fireworks.

Hartford Fair - Croton. The “Biggest Little Fair in the World” runs through August 11. The popular Rough Truck Contest returns at 7;:30 p.m. on Friday, August 10. Saturday night wraps up the Draft Horse Pull at 7:30 p.m. at the Grandstand. Admission is $6 for ages 8 and over; Senior Citizens are $3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, August 6; and Children ages 7 and under are free. Mopar Nationals - Hebron. The 32nd running of the Mopar Nationals returns to t National Trail Raceway Aug. 10 – 12. Widely regarded as the largest single-make automotive event in the world, the Mopar Nationals feature a judged car show along with a Fun Field packed with over 3,000 Mighty Mopars, drag racing, over 1200 used parts vendors and some 400 new parts dealers. Along with the racing action there will be burnout contests and more! Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, AMC, Jeep and DeSoto vehicles are all eligible to participate, with entrants from all 50 states and from around the world. Over 50,000 spectators and participants are expected, filling area streets with fabulous cars and thousands of Mopar faithful each evening. School Supply Give-Away - Buckeye Lake. If you need help making sure your children have their schools supplies on the first day of school come to the First Community Church on Ohio 79 from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11. This event is a combined effort of First Community Church, Jacksontown United Methodist Church, Waters Edge and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. Dunonville, Etna and Wagram United Methodist Churches also donated supplies. FREE!

Bats - Infirmary Mound Park, Granville. Join Manon VanSchoyck of Ohio Nature Education at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, as we learn about bats and then look and “listen” for them with a bat detector. Live bats will be available for viewing. FREE!

Perseids Meteor Shower - William C. Kraner Nature Center. Join members of the Central Ohio Astronomical Society from 9 p.m. to midnight on Sunday, Aug. 12, as we spend the evening watching the skies for the Perseid Meteor Shower. At their peak, 100 meteors per hour may be visible. If skies do not cooperate, the event will be cancelled. PLEASE CALL TO INQUIRE. 740-644- 7510 FREE!

27th Annual Tour of Homes - Buckeye Lake. The Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association presents the 27th Annual Tour of Homes on Sunday, August 12. Visitors travel by pontoon boat to visit five waterfront homes. The tour starts at the North Shore boat ramp just off Ohio 79 (about 1/2 mile south of I-70) in the Village of Buckeye Lake. The first boat leaves at noon and the last boat departs at 3 p.m. The tour takes approximately two hours. A $15 donation per person covers the boat rides and tour.

Granville Street Scenes - Granville. Granville Street Scenes Artisan and Merchant Show runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25. Vendors from Vermont, Indiana, West Virginia, and Ohio who will have many lovely and unique items for sale along Broadway in downtown Granville. Visit www.granvilleoh.com for more information.

Cool Jazz - Columbus Zoo. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Jazz Arts Group team up to heat up the summer with some cool jazz during the JazZoo Concert Series. All concerts feature Artistic Director Byron Stripling and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra at Water’s Edge Events Park. Seating opens at 6:30 p.m. with the concerts starting at 8 p.m.

General adult admission (which includes Zoo admission for the day) is $29, or purchase your tickets the day of the concert at the Zoo entrance for $35. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling the Zoo at (614) 724-3485.
