Buckeye Lake Area Civic Association recently presented its first Young American Award and $250 to Sheridan senior Kaleb Rockwell who will be attending the US Air Force Academy. The award will be presented annually to any Lakewood, Millersport or Sheridan graduates committing to a US military academy. BLACA President Ron Craig, who served 33 years in the US Air Force and Reserves, presented the award to Rockwell. BLACA also presented Student Excellence in Citizenship Awards and $250 each to a senior at Lakewood, Millersport and Sheridan. This is the second year for citizenship awards. Sheridan senior Lydia Ruddle received the award for her volunteer work at the Zanesville Animal Shelter and fundraising efforts for Whinny Horse Rescue, Campaign for Cystic Fibrosis and other animal shelters.
