John C. Love, Sr.
John C. Love, Sr., 70, of Bruno Road, Thornville, died June 3, 2012, at Genesis-Good Samaritan Medical Center after battling lung cancer.
John was born January 24, 1942, near Thornville, the son of the late Robert S. and Betty H. Drake Love. He was a 1960 graduate of Somerset High School, and a lifelong resident of Perry County. He grew up attending the Olivet Church of the Brethren. John retired from Roadway Trucking in 2004 and had also worked as a surveyor, a construction worker, and a police officer for the Village of Somerset. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go to Crow Lake, Canada. He loved to travel after his retirement.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley A. (Annie) Skidmore Love of the home; three sons, John C. Love, Jr. of Thornville, David L. Love and his fiancé, Julie of Coshocton, and Michael L. (Christina) Love of Somerset; a step-son, Michael (Erica) Melchiorre of North Carolina; a stepdaughter, Melanie (Mike) Clark of Las Vegas, NV; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert D. (Cindy) Love, Sr. of Thornville, William (Joan) Love of Pataskala, and Gary L. (Kathleen) Love of Lewis Center; two sisters, Sheri (Gary) Derr of Angola, IN and Kathy Love of Glenmont, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlene Kay Love (2001); an infant son, Thomas Joseph Love; and an infant brother.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. on June 7, 2012, at the Bope-Thomas Funeral Home, Somerset, with Pastor David Helser officiating. Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery.
