Walk with a Doc - 10 a.m. on Saturdays, May 26, June 9 and June 23. Walk with a Doc was created by Dr. David Sabgir, a board-certified cardiologist who practices with Mount Carmel Clinical Cardiovascular Specialists. The Arboretum is collaborating with WWAD to help encourage healthy, physical activity in people of all ages, and reverse the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. 32nd Ohio Regional Bonsai Show- Saturday, June 9 & Sunday, June 10, Saturday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Dawes Arboretum invites you to the 32nd annual Ohio Regional Bonsai Show. Over 100 bonsai specimens are displayed in the firelight room and bonsai courtyard. Free demonstrations go on throughout the weekend and a silent auction takes place both days of the show. Vendors will be on the Visitors Center Deck with supplies for all your bonsai needs. A workshop on Saturday, 1 – 4 p.m., focuses on beginning bonsai, perfect for those just starting out ($35 fee; registration required). Take part in the fusion of art and horticulture. Community Block Party - Buckeye Lake. New Life Pentecostal Church is hosting a Community Block Party starting at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, at its church behind the Buckeye Lake Goodwill store. Everyone is welcome. Free fun for all ages including face painting, blow-up obstacles, bounce house, sumo wrestlying, dunk tank, basketball, corn hole and live music. FREE food! Wet & Wild Weekend - William C. Kraner Nature Center, Newark. Join the folks at Ohio Nature Education from noon to 4 p.m. on either Saturday May 26 or Sunday, May 27, and explore who lives in the creek and ponds at Taft Reserve. Thornville Memorial Day Parade - Thornville. The annual parade will begin at approximately 10 a.m. on Monday, May 28. The Sheridan Band, American Legion Color Guard, Legion Ladies Auxillary, Boy and Girl Scouts, police and fire escorts, as well as children’s decorated bicycles, will assemble at the elementary school. The Thornport AMVETS Honor Guard will meet the parade at the 20th Century Veterans Monument and at the cemetery for brief ceremonies in honor of the day. For further information, call 740-246-5049.
Community Yard Sale - Millersport. The Millersport Lions Club is conducting a Community Yard Sale / Flea Market from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at the Sweet Corn Festival grounds. Spaces are $15; call Karen at 740-467-0941 to reserve one. All proceeds will go to the Christmas and catastrophe funds that are distributed locally.
Free Computer Training - Newark Library. June classes are forming now! Licking County Library and Connect Ohio offer six hours of introductory coursework to help adults understand the basics of computers, the Internet, and the benefits of broadband. Students who complete all three classes are eligible for incentives from various broadband providers in the area. Teen Drawing Classes - Newark. Newark Library is offering summer drawing classes for students in grades 6-12. The dates include the following Tuesdays: June 5, 12, 19, 26 & July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The drawing classes are in Meeting Room A, located on the main floor. Strawberry Festival - Newark. The annual Strawberry Festival is June 1- 3 on the Courthouse square. Hours are 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday; 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. This is Licking County’s largest annual event. The weekend is filled with fun and entertainment for the entire family. Over 90 artisans, crafters and vendors from Ohio and surrounding areas exhibit their items. There will be ice cream, pizza, specialty sandwiches, French fries, and other delicious foods along with nonstop stage entertainment. Columbus Arts Festival - Downtown Riverfront. Notable local and national artists will exhibit and sell their work at the 2012 Columbus Arts Festival June 1, 2 and 3. Nine of the 2011 award-winning artists are returning this year: The approximately 240 artists were selected from more than 1,100 applicants. Fight for Air” Walk - Easton Town Center. The American Lung Association holds its annual “Fight for Air” Walk on Saturday, June 2, at Easton Town Center beginning and ending at the Town Square. The Walk helps raise money and awareness in the fight for healthy lungs and clean air. It is family-based and includes refreshments, roaming entertainment, a fun Kid Zone, exhibits and some wonderful fundraising incentive prizes. Teen Games Night - Buckeye Lake. Join us at the new Buckeye Lake Library from 5 - 6 p.m. on the first Monday of every month for Teen Games Night. There will be a variety of games for teens in grades 6-12 to play plus snacks.
Buckeye Lake Carp Fest - North Shore Boat Ramp, Buckeye Lake. Help Buckeye Lake for Tomorrow reduce the lake’s excessive carp population. More than $2,500 in cash prizes will be awarded for carp caught during the second Annual Carp Fest June 8-10. The earlier date should mean cooler weather and more productive. Registration is just $5 per fisherman. Pre-register from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at Z’s Village Market on Ohio 79 in Buckeye Lake Village. On-site registration begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 8. Cash prizes will be awarded for the most carp by weight caught over the 48-hour tournament and for the largest carp by weight caught during the same time. Daily cash prizes will also be awarded.
