Phillip “Rodney” Higgins, Jr.

A Celebration of Life Service for Phillip “Rodney” Higgins, Jr., age 56 of Thornville, was held May 5, 2012, at the Bible Temple of God Church, Newark, with Rev. Steve Robinson and Rev. David Lombardi officiating.

Rodney was born in Waynesburg, PA, on September 7, 1955, to Phillip R. (Margaret) Higgins of Blacksville, WV and Norma (Joe) Hostutler of Morgantown, WV. He passed away at the Ross Heart Center at O.S.U. Medical Center on May 2, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family.

Rodney graduated from Lakewood High School and was a truck driver for over 22 years. He was always involved in church, where he was a musician, playing the guitar and singing of God’s praise. He was well known for leading the musical group, The New Sunrise. He enjoyed eating hotcakes at McDonalds with Gracie, riding his motorcycle, bowling and boating. Rodney was a simple man with strong Christian values, but most important in his life, was his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 37 years, Carol (Isaacs) Higgins, whom he married on September 20, 1974; three daughters, Kerri (James) Neale of Pataskala, Kelly (Sly) Wallen of Newark and Kristen Higgins of Hebron; granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Wallen of Newark; sisters, Judy (Brad) Cayton and Tamyra Rohozen; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by one brother, David Higgins; and one sister, Michelle Higgins.
