Student selected for summer vet program

MILLERSPORT – Briana Keyes, daughter of Jeff & Lisa Keyes of Buckeye Lake, has been accepted to Adventures in Veterinary Medicine, a two-week resident program for high school students at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, Tufts University, North Grafton, MA.

High school students from across the country compete for just 50 spots in two 14-day resident sessions each summer. GPA, class rank, test scores, letters of recommendation, a written essay, and experience working with animals are part of the acceptance criteria. Originally, Briana made only the wait-list.

“I knew it was a long shot when I applied,” she said. “I didn’t know about it until months after they had been accepting applications… I was so surprised when they called last week to tell me that a spot had opened… ”

The late offer gives Briana little time to raise the funds needed to take advantage of this opportunity. Expenses total several thousand dollars and are due May 11.

The Millersport High School junior is a member of the National Honor Society, German Club, Quiz Team, Marching Band and Wind Ensemble, and is a starter in three varsity sports.

Sponsorship contributions are being graciously accepted in her name to PO Box 50, Buckeye Lake, OH 43008.
