Bog cleanup days set for April 21, 28

BUCKEYE LAKE – Earth Day is Sunday, April 22. You can celebrate by joining with the reactivated Friends of Cranberry Bog volunteer organization to help prolong the life of our special one-of-a-kind natural wonder.

Two 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. work days have been scheduled – Saturdays, April 21 and 28. If necessary, additional days will be scheduled for early May.

. Projects include removal of invasive sumac vegetation and perimeter maple trees, removing unused portions of the now 39-yearold deteriorating boardwalk, cleaning the rest of the boardwalk and transplanting pitcher plants from the East Meadow to areas near the boardwalk.

The Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society will provide volunteers with protective jump suite, gloves and drinking water.

Longer term plans include replacing the existing boardwalk, extending it and enlarging existing boardwalk presentation areas. These projects will require extensive fundraising.

Clean- up day volunteers or anyone interested in making donations to help preserve the bog should call the museum at 740-928-1998 or George O’Donnel at 614-314- 1043. Email contacts are J-me@ BuckeyeLakeHistory.org and godonnel@Arshot.com
