Hebron Elementary students are jumping for more than joy; they’re jumping for hearts, too! The students are taking part in the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart campaign and not only learning about the importance of heart health, but also raising money to help kids with heart defects or special circumstances, such as pacemakers. Students ask for sponsors to help them raise money as they jump rope during physical education class time. Students who raise $40 or more receive a t-shirt, and those who raise $65 or more win a pizza party during school. According to the American Heart Association, congenital heart defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. Many children are alive today because of treatments not available even 10 years ago. Beacon photo by Scott Rawdon.
