Herbert William West, Sr

A funeral service, celebrating the life of Herbert William West, Sr., 83, of Glenford, was held December 29, 2011, in the chapel of The Hoskinson Funeral Home, Kirkersville, with Pastor Tom Beeman as celebrant. Burial with full military honors followed at Kirkersville Cemetery.

Herb died December 23, 2011, at his home following an extended illness. He was born October 17, 1928, in Pentress, W.V., the son of the late Fred D. and Sara E. (Higgins) West.

He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was the first employee hired by Tectum Corp., from where he retired after 43 years of service. He was a member of the Newark Druids, Moose and American Legion, and a former member of the Newark Eagles.

Herb loved to fish, camp, talk on the CB radio (Handle: “Farmboy”) and was quite a dancer. He also enjoyed listening to his 8-tracks in the garage.

He is survived by his loving family: Louise “Weezie” Ranck of Glenford; children, Herbert (Mary Ellen) West Jr. of Belle, FL., Rick (Wanda) West of Newark, Donna( Michael) Back of Glenford, Dana (Mary Jane) West of of Newark, Charles (Phyllis) West of Glenford and Chris (Kathy) West of Newark; 20 grandchildren; 33 great- grandchildren: one greatgreat grandchild; brothers, Buck (Sherry) West and Frank (Marge) West of Zanesville; sister, Lucy (Leonard) Boggs of Canal Winchester; brother-in-law, Leonard Keller; sisters-in-law. Jean West of Heath, Ilene West of FL., Mary Bonifield of Dresden, Julia (Kenny) Longshore and Carolyn (Virgil) George; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Katharine (Keller) in 2000; his granddaughters, Veronica and Stacy; his brothers, Fred, Raymond, Bob, Cleatus and infant brother, Phillip.
