Financial aid night set for Jan. 9

HEBRON – Lakewood High School and the Get On Track! College Access and Readiness Program are sponsoring a Financial Aid Information Night at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, January 9, in the Performing Arts Complex.

Although the information is geared toward graduating seniors and their families, anyone who would like to know more about financing their education after high school is encouraged to attend.

Ms. Amanda Schoop from the Financial Aid Office at COTC and OSU-Newark will present the program, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application process and deadlines associated with it. College-bound students must complete the FAFSA to obtain aid in the form of loans and grants from the federal and state governments, as well as the college they plan to attend. The FAFSA is also required for some scholarship applications. Participants will leave the program with materials designed to make the application process easier.

Families will also be able to reserve a computer for the January’s Financial Aid Computer Help Night at Lakewood High School on at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 26. Beginning January 1, families may go online to complete their FAFSA for the 2012-2013 school year. At the Computer Help Night, families can plug in their financial information using the school’s computer lab and hopefully submit their FAFSA that evening. This is a work session for students and their families and no formal presentation is scheduled. There will be financial aid professionals on hand to help and answer your specific questions.

Students are strongly encouraged to attend the January 9 meeting as computer space for the FAFSA computer work session is limited and students attending that meeting will get first priority.
