Wendell Homer Shelly
Wendell Homer Shelly, 90, of Thornville, went home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2011.
Wendell was born April 23, 1921, in Thornville, the son of the late Homer C. and Mary Esta Mohler Shelly.
He was a 1939 graduate of Thornville High School, and a World War II Army Air Corp veteran. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
He was a member of the Vintage Voices. Wendell was a lifelong master finish carpenter and enjoyed making finely crafted furniture for family and friends.
He is survived by a daughter, Laurel (Dave) Gliem of Thornville; two sons, Lowell “Mel” (Tammy) Shelly of Lancaster and David (Debby) Shelly of Newark; and four grandchildren, Susan and Heidi Gliem and Aaron and Hannah Shelly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Cooperrider Shelly (2000).
Funeral service was December 13, 2011, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6004 Linnville Road, with Pastor Tom Olson officiating. Burial followed in Thornville Lutheran Reformed Cemetery.
